The goals of this lesson are to understand the significance of International Women's Day, explore the history of women's rights movements, recognize the achievements of women in various fields and encourage critical thinking about gender stereotypes and biases.

Activity 1 Women who changed the world

Group work – students play a memory game (influential women). After the game, they discuss the women mentioned in the game.

Activity 2

Individual work – students choose an influential woman and do a research on her after which they design a poster and prepare an oral presentation of the poster. (instructions and the checklist are in the materials).

Activity 3

Individual work – students name five adjectives that are used to describe men/women. For this activity Mentimeter is used for creating instant word cloud. Whole class – students discuss their choices of adjectives and find examples in real life.

Activity 4 Gender bias

Whole class – students analyse and discuss comics representing gender bias (presentation slides 9 and 10). They brainstorm more examples of gender bias. They discuss how gender bias influences both man and women.

Activity 5 Role Reversal skits

Group work – students choose the cards randomly; they act out in a skit exaggerating the stereotype. After each skit, have a brief discussion about how harmful and limiting stereotypes can be.

Activity 6 Role reversal memes

Individual work – students select an image (free image, their own image, AI generated image) and they write the text for the meme and select text placement (top or bottom). Their meme should show a reversed role situation. Students use humour and creativity while avoiding offensive content. The intended message is raise awareness of gender stereotypes.
