This is a learning scenario for B1-B2 level students. The topic of this lesson is identity. The skills practiced are speaking, and writing.

The goal of this lesson is to enable students to describe their personal identity using appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures, specifically focusing on the Present Simple and Present Continuous. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to introduce themselves, talk about their hobbies, professions, and personality traits, and engage in conversations about their identities.

Activity 1 Intorduction

Teacher introduces the topic This is us by introducing herself/himself in short. Whole class – students brainstorm everything they think is important for one’s identity (personality, hobbies and interests, family, friends, nationality, like and dislikes, profession, age…); students give examples for the identity elements mentioned.

Activity 2 Mind map

Individual work – students decide what is important for their identity and create mind maps. Whole class – students use Present Simple (routines and facts about themselves) and Present Continuous (actions happening to them now and around now) and their mind maps to talk about themselves.

Activity 3

Whole class – students play a quick game where they have to guess who is being described based on a few sentences (e.g., "This person enjoys hiking and is currently reading a mystery book. Who is it?").

Activity 4

Individual work – students create a visual representation of themselves. They either draw their portraits or design it using bitmoji and Canva (half of their portrait is their face and the other half are visual representations of all the things that are important for their identity).

Activity 5

Students write a description of themselves following the checklist (description organization – introduction, the body, conclusion; elements of identity, personality adjectives, Present Simple/Continuous).

Activity 6

Summative assessment of the description with the help of the rubric.
