The goal of this lesson is to enable students to describe different rooms and furniture in a house using appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures (some, any, there is/there are) to describe rooms and their contents.

Activity 1

Whole class – teacher show pictures of different rooms (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom), students to name them; students talk about their homes briefly (what type of home they live in, what rooms there are in their home.

Activity 2

Individual work – each student gets one room to design and furnish after which they create a picture dictionary (add words to the furniture), students record themselves pronouncing the words and link the recordings to the words (students use vocaroo to record themselves).

Activity 3

Teacher introduces structure There is/There are with the help of the pictures of different rooms (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom). Pair work – students use the structure There is/There are to describe one of the rooms from the pictures the teacher has prepared (template 1).

Activity 4

Teacher introduces the use of some and any with the help of the pictures of different rooms (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom). Pair work – students use any and some to talk about the rooms from the pictures the teacher has prepared (template 1).

Activity 5

Individual work – students duplicate their rooms, they make 5-10 changes after which they duplicate that slide as well and circle the changes they have made (this is the key).

Activity 6

Techer prints students slides they have created in the previous activity. Individual work – students look for the differences between the two slides Pair work - students describe the differences between the slides to each other using there is/there are; any and some

Activity 7

Homework Students write the description of their rooms using the vocabulary they have learned and there is/there are, any and some. Teachers assesses students’ descriptions of the rooms (the use of the vocabulary and the structures).
