This is a learning scenario for B1-B2 level students. The topic of this lesson is the image of oneself and the skills practiced are speaking, and writing. The goal of the lesson plan is to enhance self-awareness and language skills. Students describe their physical and psychological traits to expand vocabulary, improve descriptive writing and speaking skills, and foster mutual understanding. Activities include writing descriptions, drawing self-portraits, sharing in pairs, and presenting to the class. This promotes confidence, appreciation of diversity, and interpersonal communication skills, creating a supportive classroom environment.

Activity 1 Drawing dictation

Individual work – students listen to the description and draw what they hear. Teacher reads the text twice: first the whole text, second time paragraph by paragraph. Students will need colouring pens for this activity.

Activity 2 Image vocabulary

Individual work – students search for words describing physical appearance in a word search. Pair work – Students help each other with the explanation/pronunciation/translation of the vocabulary they are not familiar with, teacher helps them if needed. Students create a cloze test for their partners with the words from the word search.

Activity 3 Describing a person

Individual work – students find a picture of a person and then describe him/her. They have to describe their height, built, age, face, hair, eyes and complexion. Formative assessment: Checklist I have: found the picture of a person described his/her height, built, age described his/her face, eyes, complexion and hair use the new vocabulary

Activity 4 Fashion collection Dictionary

Pair work: students design a walk-in wardrobe using Canva, they fill it in with clothes for a specific person (teenager, model, lawyer, athlete, influencer…); students describe the person’s style; students create a picture dictionary with their slide(s) – they write the words next to the clothes, record the pronunciation and attach it to the word

Activity 5 Compliment Circle

Group work – students sit in a circle and each student give a positive comment about the physical appearance of the person next to them. This promotes positive body image and observation skills.

Activity 6 Assessment

In three minutes’ time, students write down all the new words/expressions they have learned.
