This project-based learning activity introduces students to plant phenology through the Budburst citizen science program. Students observe and record seasonal changes in plants, collect and analyse real scientific data, and explore how climate influences ecosystems. The material develops scientific, digital and observational skills while promoting environmental awareness, climate literacy and active participation in authentic ecological research.

Through this citizen science project, students will develop an understanding of phenology and the relationship between plant life cycles, seasonal changes and climate. They will learn to identify plant species and observe different stages of plant development, such as leaf emergence, flowering and fruiting. Students will strengthen scientific inquiry skills through observation, data collection, analysis and interpretation, while improving digital literacy by using the Budburst platform. The project promotes environmental awareness, climate literacy and critical thinking, helping students understand how climate change affects ecosystems. It also develops teamwork, collaboration and communication skills through shared fieldwork and discussion.
