This project-based learning activity introduces students to citizen science through urban bird monitoring using the eBird platform. Students observe and identify bird species, collect and analyse real scientific data, and explore the importance of biodiversity conservation. The material promotes environmental literacy, scientific inquiry, digital skills, teamwork and active participation in authentic ecological research.

Through this citizen science project, students will develop knowledge of urban biodiversity, bird ecology and the role of birds as indicators of environmental health. They will learn how scientific data are collected and used in biodiversity monitoring and conservation. Students will improve species identification skills, data collection and analysis, observation techniques and digital literacy through the use of the eBird platform.
