In this creative writing and speaking activity, students reflect on their summer holidays by creating an Instagram-style story. They use English to describe a memorable experience, express emotions, and reflect on what they learned. The activity encourages personal expression, communication, and digital literacy while helping students reconnect with classmates at the beginning of the school year.

Nastavnička priprema

The teacher displays several summer-themed images (e.g., beach, festival, mountains, camping, city trip). Students work in pairs and discuss which image best represents their summer and why. Volunteers share their ideas with the class.

Students discuss the typical features of Instagram stories and posts. As a class, they identify common elements such as locations, activities, emotions, photos, hashtags, and personal reflections. The teacher introduces the writing task and explains the required components.

Students complete a simple planning organizer. They choose one memorable summer experience and note down:  a destination or place, an activity they enjoyed, an emotion they felt, a lesson learned or realization.  The teacher provides useful vocabulary and sentence starters to support writing.

Students write a short Instagram-style story of 6–8 sentences. They begin with a catchy opening such as "This summer, I discovered that..." and include all required elements. Students are encouraged to add hashtags, emojis, or a creative title to make their story authentic. Students use a worksheet with instructions and a template. Students display their stories around the classroom. They walk around, read their classmates' stories, and leave positive comments or questions on sticky notes. This creates opportunities for meaningful interaction and helps students learn more about each other's summer experiences.

Several volunteers read their stories aloud. The class discusses common themes and interesting experiences. Students reflect on what they learned about themselves or their classmates through the activity.
