The information and introductory lesson plan shared is for Grade 8 primary school students who are in their eighth year of learning. The idea was to create a motivational lesson (lesson plan provided) where the teacher presents a PPT on the theme of Australia.(PPT also provided) This would then pave the way for students to further research and present certain aspects of the theme in more detail. The PPT provided is a slightly different/unusual look at Australia and its history and culture-it definately makes bold statements, especially about the Indigenous. The presentation which the teacher is to give with the help of the PPT (notes have been written to acompany each slide), should take about 30minutes. The last 15 minutes is for the groups to be organised and for the teacher and students to discuss a time-frame and due date of each groups presentation and how and what will be graded. This type of project work can be done pretty much at any time of the year. I try and organise it around the 26th January-Australia Day (or is it Invasion Day?) In addition to the lesson plan, some helpful resources are provided to guide each group of students in their research.
