The goal of learning scenario is to celebrate and promote the English language and its cultural heritage.

Activity 1

Individual work – students answer the question: What is English language to you? They do it on a (digital) poster. Check the template in the description.

Activity 2 Fun Facts

Pair work – students do a web quest looking for fun facts about English language, they design banners/posts for social media in order to celebrate English Language day.

Activity 3 History of English

Pair work – students watch a video clip about the history of English language and mark the influences on the blind map of Europe; they make notes on all the influences (words, grammar, pronunciation); students present their maps.

Activity 4 Words & Expressions by Shakespeare

Individual work – students do a research on Shakespeare’s influence on English language; they choose an expression they like the best and add it to the joint poster; after the poster is finished, they choose somebody else’s phrase and use it in a sentence.

Activity 5 Shakespeare and English Language

Individual work – students do a research on Shakespeare’s influence on English language; they choose an expression they like the best and add it to the joint poster; after the poster is finished, they choose somebody else’s phrase and use it in a sentence.

Activity 6 English Language Day Party

Pair work – students plan a party in order to celebrate ELD; they organise the venue, decorations, food and drinks, music, they decide who they are going to invite; they can be as creative and imaginative as they want to; they write the invitation for their party.

Activity 7 Formative assessment

Students name three new things they have learned about English language, two things they would like to know more about and one more question they have.
